New Everton Women manager Brian Sorensen has revealed his immense pride at joining “an amazing and historic club” and set out his immediate priorities as he strives to drive the Blues forward. Speaking in his first interview since his appointment – which you can view in the video above or here – he described the “proactive” style of football he will seek to implement and explained his excitement about leading a club with such a passionate and loyal fanbase. Sorensen joins Everton from Fortuna Hjorring in his Danish homeland, where during two spells as boss he has won two league titles, a domestic cup and established the team as regulars in the knockout stages of the Champions League. The 41-year-old – who has also led IK Skovbakken and FC Nordsjaelland to domestic cup triumphs – explained the vast potential he sees at Everton. “It feels fantastic to be here,” he told evertontv. “I set it as a target three years ago that wanted to go into the WSL. Everton is one of the most historic clubs in the women’s game, so it is a dream come true. “I have had some really good talks with Alan [McTavish, Everton Women Managing Director] about how we get back on track. “I am hoping to use the knowledge I have and put a structure in place, making sure the building blocks are there to get the team back where it belongs. “To achieve that, it’s about setting the standards – making sure we have a squad that is balanced in mindset and skillset.” Sorensen has forged a reputation for shaping successful teams which play progressive and attractive football. Outlining what fans can expect from his Everton side, Sorensen said: “We want to be aggressive and we want to be proactive – I think that is the key word – in everything we do. “That is with the ball and without the ball. “We want to have control over games, and you do that by keeping possession. “We need to make sure the players know what our identity is and implement that day in, day out. All the details matter.” On Everton’s fanbase, Sorensen added: “The support the fans give the team is unbelievable. “I hope they will continue with that. We want to give them good moments and victories. “I am looking forward to meeting them and showing them who I am.” www.evertonfc.com/news

Everton Women’s manager Brian Sorensen and his assistant Stephen Neligan have signed new contracts with the Club until the end of June 2026.
Toffees head coach Sorensen joined the Blues from Danish outfit Fortuna Hjorring ahead of the 2022/23 season and led Everton to an impressive top-six finish in the Women’s Super League in his maiden campaign.
Under his guidance, Everton have built a team mixed with proven internationals and promising young talent that plays expansive and attractive football.
After committing his future to the Blues, Sorensen told evertontv: “I’m very happy - I really like it here. I like the Club, I like the people in the Club and I like the fans.
“There’s a plan in place, we have a good future and a good squad going forward. I think it’s important to show in the background there’s a plan.
“Results this season haven’t been the best at times - injuries to key players have been a big part of that - but we are performing extremely well and we have a good group. We want to continue working on that. The building blocks are there.
“This is one of the best groups I have worked with, for sure. They stick together and believe. In tough times, they've found the wins - games like West Ham away, Villa away - that really shows the character of the group.
“We’re all determined to keep moving forward with Everton.”
Also extending his stay at Everton is Sorensen’s assistant manager Neligan. The duo previously worked together at Danish clubs FC Nordsjaelland and Fortuna Hjorring, with the Australian moving to Merseyside in July 2022.
“I’m delighted to continue here at Everton,” said Neligan. “Brian and I are really excited to extend our time here and continue the path we’ve started.
“I feel there is a solid foundation that we’re working from and we’re looking forward to continue doing the best for this club.
“It’s been a challenging but interesting first couple of years in English football. I think we’ve got a great group of players here and we’re excited for the future.
“I think we’re in a good place with the long-term plans we have for the squad and for this club.
“The best is still to come. I’m really excited to be here and I really believe in this project. That’s why we’re happy to extend our stay and continue to move Everton forward.”
After Sorensen and Neligan penned their new deals, Everton Women CEO, Alan McTavish, said: “It’s now over two years since Brian first agreed to join us and I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to reach a new agreement to continue for at least another two seasons.
“In my opinion, there is no doubt that the Barclays WSL is the best, most competitive women’s league in the world and the competition is only going in one direction.
“This season has been a difficult one but I’m confident that we can regroup this summer, prepare well and be ready to go again come September.”

At one point I thought he'd get sacked.
