Lewis Gibson has joined League One side Bristol Rovers on a season-long loan after agreeing a new one-year contract with Everton until the end of June 2023. The 22-year-old centre-back moves to newly-promoted Rovers, who are managed by former Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton. Gibson signed for Everton from Newcastle United in July 2017 and played a key role in Everton Under-23s’ Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup double in 2018/19. He joined Fleetwood Town on loan for the second half of the following campaign, helping them qualify for the League One play-offs, before sealing a temporary switch to Championship side Reading for 2020/21. Last term, Gibson returned to League One for a season-long loan with Sheffield Wednesday, although injury limited the defender to six appearances. Everton FC
