That is a small one - Phidippus audax - a jumping spider. It was taken by putting a 50mm lens plus special extension tubes onto the lens, which was attached to the camera backwards (which has the effect of enlarging everything). The chap who took this photo is the person who convinced me to buy the lens I use (a Venus 2:1 Super Macro lens). His name is Thomas Shahan, and he is probably the worlds best macro photographer. I did invite him to my facebook page once, but he hasn't joined (yet...) Google him - he is a stunning photographer. The UK jumping spiders sadly are not as handsome as this - most are a plain brown colour - here are a couple I took in my garden a while back - not as large as the tropical ones - these are about 1/4inch in size:

You almost sense the hunt, so to speak.

Let's have em then Here is a greenbottle fly tonight in the garden - still a bug-free zone for the most part! And here is a real spider close up - this is one of the sorts you find in your shed, or that go as fast a Deulofeu across the carpet... Bilbo. Dirty faced little mother. Hate flies. Top pictures tho mate.

Cheers guys - small things seen large are often more remarkable than we think.
