Paul Gascoigne reportedly placed on emergency detoxMedics section former Tottenham Hotspur player under the Mental Health Act after a drinking binge, it is reportedTottenham Hotspur have said they are supporting former football star Paul Gascoigne after it was reported he had been placed on an emergency three-day detox. Medics sectioned the 47-year-old under the Mental Health Act at 3am on Friday after a drinking binge, it was reported on Saturday. A spokesman for Spurs said: “We are aware of the situation with Paul and continue to offer our support.” His close friend and former Spurs team-mate Gary Mabbutt said: “Paul hasn’t been well for the past couple of weeks, he wants to get better and he’s asked for help. He is being looked after very well – he has got a lot of support around him.” Mabbutt said he could not confirm the report that Gascoigne had been sectioned. Police were called to Gascoigne’s home in Poole, Dorset, at around 3.30pm on Thursday, according to the Sun. Officers were with him when he went to hospital early on Friday. The newspaper quoted a source as saying: “Paul arrived at hospital at about 3am surrounded by police and doctors. He was not in a good state and they were really worried about him. He had been medically assessed during the afternoon before and was deemed to be okay. “Then something obviously happened. He was put on a three-day detox.” Police had no comment about the incident.

Probably the best place for him if the truth is known. The alternative is he drinks himself to death so any help is good help.

The former England star has been snapped looking in a terrible state in the past as he battles alcohol problems. But Gazza, 49, posted an image of himself looking in fine fettle this afternoon on Twitter. Wearing a smart blazer, the ex-Spurs, Newcastle, Everton and Rangers man sports a healthy tan in this snap.

i dont wish him harm but if im honest im tired of reading about him. they say players go off the rails when they retire but they want to try life through the eyes of an average person I'm retired and have been for nearlyeight years now. It does drive me 'batty' sometimes because I've always worked and never been on the dole, but, I don't turn to drink! I do think you're right in your assessment.
